This 12,670 SF mountaintop retreat was designed by Michael L. Oxman and Associates, Ltd. and constructed by TMG Construction Corporation. It is sited to offer 360-degree views of the surrounding community. The project involved 80 acres of site development, including the construction of the timber-frame and stone retreat, large spa and swimming pool with 72-ft. negative-edge waterfall, a lighted tennis court, a lake with stone waterfall and elevated concrete terraces and patios.
The retreat facility features indigenous-stone flooring throughout, 12 dual-fueled HVAC units, a state-of-the-art building automation system with distributed video/audio/lighting and an auto-control pool mechanical system, two 9-ft.-diameter masonry fire pits with floating copper chimney hoods and a 3-story elevator. Two large octagons are connected by a large open central foyer area that opens to an outdoor living space.
The site presented challenging conditions, including deeply embedded boulders and a 100-ft. vertical grade change from the site entrance off a public road to the top of the building site. TMG’s Civil Team constructed one mile of switchback road paved with asphalt on a gravel substrate and reconfigured the mountaintop to create a lawn area with controlled views. The scope of work also included considerable grading, drainage improvements, decorative site concrete walkways, stairways and an asphalt-paved parking area associated with the retreat facility. TMG also constructed a paved satellite parking area for overflow vehicles. Other asphalt paving/striping projects included lighted tennis courts.
