TMG constructed DCA’s Airport Rescue and Fire Fighting Facility Station 301 (ARFF-301), which serves the rescue and response needs of the entire airport.
Working under a contract issued by the Washington Metropolitan Airports Authority (MWAA), the project involved construction of a 26,000 SF one-story building and related site improvements. The new building is a six-bay, steel-framed facility with corrugated metal siding, single-ply membrane roof system and automated, overhead doors on opposite sides of the structure. Designed with living quarters to accommodate 22-person, fire-rescue shifts operating 24/7, the building houses not only fire and rescue equipment, but state-of-the-art building systems. Related site work included working within a 70-year-old airfield, which entailed excavating through three generations of existing utilities and hazardous material residue to install new building-related utilities and stormwater collection system; to construct parking lots and building approaches; and, to demolish the existing ARFF once the new building was completed and accepted for use.
