TMG Construction renovated and modernized the Blood Transfusion/Blood Bank Services Lab (BTL) in Building 9 at the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center. This 1,450 SF facility, the only lab of its kind at the hospital, played a critical role in supporting the main Operating Rooms. The project involved a complete demolition of the existing lab down to the metal studs, with strict adherence to Infection Control Risk Assessment (ICRA) protocols to ensure patient and staff safety throughout construction. During the renovation, lab operations were temporarily relocated to maintain uninterrupted service.

The comprehensive scope included the installation of temporary ICRA barriers, new partitions, upgraded interior finishes, custom cabinetry, and modular, adjustable laboratory casework. TMG also performed extensive above-ceiling work, including the demolition, re-engineering, and installation of all mechanical, plumbing, electrical, and data systems. The project further required the relocation and addition of fire sprinkler heads, as well as the integration of new fire alarm and detection devices into the hospital’s existing system.

This project was completed under a NAVFAC 8(a) MACC IDIQ.
