IAD Ramp Tower Construction Ramps Up
July 27, 2005
TMG Staff
The construction of a tower to control ramp traffic at the C/D Concourse at Dulles International Airport (IAD) is underway. The new tower raises the roof of the midfield terminal to permit better control of aircraft ground operations in and around the concourse. Select demolition work is being performed with great care to ensure that aircraft and IAD personnel are shielded from debris, and to protect the exposed section of the building from the elements. Work includes the construction of a structural steel frame and an exterior skin that matches the existing terminal building. Interior appointments will include custom millwork, specialty window blinds, and essential electrical devices. The Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority (MWAA) has indicated that personnel for the tower have already been hired and are eagerly anticipating the completion of their new workplace.

TMG’s partners in this project include Hallmark Iron Works, Natelco Corporation (electric), Jett Mechanical, Prospect Waterproofing, Art Creations, and Custom Glass Services, Inc. Key TMG personnel include Project Manager John Warren, Superintendent Ken Matuszewski, QC Engineer Chad Luebbehusen, and Safety Manager Gerry Boudreau.

Construction begins at Dulles International Airport on a new ramp tower located atop the C/D Concourse.
