In keeping with its reputation of providing airline travelers with a first-class travel experience, Lufthansa German Airlines has awarded the highly coveted contract to build its upscale Senator & Business Lounges at Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD) to TMG Construction Corporation.
Lufthansa’s First Class and VIP passengers will have a direct taxiway to the two-story luxury club, located at Gates B-49 and B-51 at IAD. The Senator Lounge will be upstairs while first class passengers will have access to the amenities on the first level. The two lounges will be connected by an elegant open curved stairway with stainless steel and glass hand railing. TMG is working with Alexandria, VA-based Giuliani Associates Architects, Inc., on fulfilling Lufthansa’s sleek and modern design. The lounges are one of many projects that TMG has teamed with Giuliani Associates.
TMG broke ground on July 24, 2008 and will complete the project for a special unveiling event on December 11, 2008.
Other special features of the luxury lounges are high-end architectural finishes that include decorative metal ceilings throughout, gourmet food service facilities on two levels, an elevator, a dumb waiter, cutting-edge fire protection systems and other amenities.
TMG embraces the challenge of completing the project in a mere 20 weeks, despite the fact that 70% of the materials required to complete the project have lead times of up to 12 weeks. "We have planned the management of this project in a very deliberate and strategic manner, so we will meet the completion date without a hitch," notes Joe Matthews, TMG’s Vice President of Operations and Principal. TMG has become a leading provider of task order and specialty contract construction for the aviation industry, completing more than 400 projects at Dulles Airport alone last year.
