Helping a Shelter Provide Shelter
February 14, 2008
Megan Maday, TMG
When Loudoun County Animal Control seized 48 horses in mid-January, the entire county and metropolitan area took notice. Volunteers provided countless hours of support and "hands-on" care. Significant monetary donations were made.

The problem that remained was: where to board dozens of rescued horses - some of which required medical treatment due to poor conditions and neglect at their former home. The horses had been transported to the County’s Animal Care and Control facility near Waterford, but there was only one small run-in shed on the premises - hardly enough to shelter 48 suffering animals from the winter elements.

The project required emergency construction services from a reliable and proven source. Loudoun County chose TMG Construction Corporation for its irrefutable track record of fast response and creative solutions. TMG quickly jumped into action to begin construction of a new fully-equipped barn, three run-in sheds and two barn expansions to provide nearly 5,000 sq. ft. of improvements to the existing animal shelter property. TMG is equipping the facilities with plumbing and electricity as well as exterior painting. The additional buildings are providing much needed improvements to the dated animal shelter facilities as well as providing the horses with immediate shelter until they can be adopted.

TMG’s field and office staff coordinated the project through completion, providing well-designed and cost-effective structures within the County’s budget. TMG’s rapid response provided the framework for the project to be completed ahead of schedule. All construction is scheduled for completion early March.

And it appears that two of the horses already have found a home. TMG President Tanya Matthews and VP of Operations Joe Matthews plan to adopt two horses - one of which is a pregnant mare. TMG is completing a 12-stall horse barn at the Matthews’ farm in Purcellville, where the rescued horses will find all the attention, shelter and love they deserve.

TMG answered the call when Loudoun County's Animal Care and Control facility needed to rapidly expand its facilities to provide shelter for 48 abused and neglected horses seized by the agency.
