TMG Completes Series of Key Projects at IAD
September 16, 2009
Nancy Baker
TMG's IAD Project Team played a key role in the new Security Checkpoint relocation at Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD), which was unveiled on September 15 to great media fanfare. The security checkpoints are the centerpiece of the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority's (MWAA) Package 6 contract, a series of significant projects that include installation of 24 security checkpoints to access the new Aero Train; installation of x-ray equipment and magnetometers; installation of three removable skylights; relocation of the United Airlines tug road; relocation of TSA equipment; upgrades and new glass storefront at the Main Terminal East Baggage Security Office; restoration of the Main Terminal tower base, installation of the new International Display Systems, installation of Interim Wayfinding Signage; and other security entrance points.

The Package 6 security checkpoints are located on the new underground mezzanine level. The 121,700-square-foot mezzanine is part of an ongoing $3.4 billion construction project to renovate concourses and ease crowds in the main terminal. Later this year, passengers who clear the security checkpoints will descend one more level to enter the main station of the new 4-mile people-mover train system called AeroTrain, which will shuttle passengers to and from concourses.

TMG completed the relocation of IAD's security checkpoints to thier new location on the lower mezzanine.

TMG has performed several projects in the new main terminal Aero Train station in preparation for its opening later this year.
