IAD’s Terminal "A" Gas Line Is Relocated
April 1, 2005
Tanya Matthews, TMG
TMG’s Dulles team in collaboration with Mid Atlantic Pipeliners, Parson Management Corporation and other personnel successfully completed the relocation of a gas line located below the 15" thick concrete ramp area near the airport’s "A" terminal. TMG’s client, the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority (MWAA), needed to move the gas line outside the perimeter of the building for safety reasons. The project required work to proceed both in the day and at night to avoid interruption to airport services in the terminal and on the ramp.

The scope of work included sitework, site concrete, utility location, special inspections for gas lines, demolition, and the installation of the new gas line. This work was accomplished primarily at night, between 10 pm and 4 am, under tight security and with significant safety measures being taken. The project is on the southeast side of the airport, in close proximity to the people mover dock. The live tap into the existing gas line occurred in late February 2005 and the new line was energized on time and within budget. A team of eight subcontractors assisted TMG with this interesting and complex project.
