As if we needed more heat, they're turning it up at Ft. Belvoir
July 1, 2010
Gwen Krahl
Now that the warm weather is upon us, TMG's Ft. Belvoir team is in full gear.

You may remember from their last update that Team Belvoir was overseeing the pulling of conductors through 8" conduit in preparation for connecting to power provided outside the post. Last week, right on schedule, a "Hot Tap" was performed, tying the new conductors into the existing 34.5 kV Dominion line without disruption to the service. Power is now flowing to the Emergency Services Center on the base, as well as to all government construction offices. TMG's sub on this project was USA Solutions.

TMG's team continues to work on the approximately one-mile long South Loop Road, where they are in the process of transitioning from the Rough Grading project to the Paving & Traffic project. Underground conduits are currently being installed to house communications cables and the power lines supplying the pole lights. The team has also started drilling for the seven-foot deep light-pole foundations. The primary subcontractor on this portion of the work is Midasco, a leading specialty infrastructure contractor specializing in signs, lighting, traffic signals, intelligent transportation systems and related work.

Team Belvoir has also been moving along with the South Loop Road Bridge. As you can see from the pictures, they recently started setting the precast concrete beams used to support the bridge deck over the wetlands. The beams each weigh in excess of 43,000 pounds and a total of 30 beams will be lifted and set. Subcontractors assisting TMG on this project are Shirley Contracting, McKinney & Company, and ECS.
