Making Connections in Springfield
February 9, 2009
Nancy Baker
TMG is building with purpose in Springfield. Our Fort Belvoir Team recently constructed a crossover road to connect the Fairfax County Parkway South to the South Loop Road, which traverses Fort Belvoir's Engineering Proving Grounds' New Campus East. The campus is the site of the new National Geospatial Agency and is part of multi-million dollar IDIQ contract with the US Army Corps of Engineers - Baltimore District.

TMG’s heavy equipment crew first had to build a diversion road to divert traffic from the EPG entrance. The crew merged three lanes into two and diverted them onto the Central Motors' access road, which was the only entrance to the EPG, which is traveled by more than 2,000 workers and some 300 delivery trucks daily.

The crew completed the diversion the next day and began cutting the road and installing two runs of RCP storm sewer. Working long into the night the crew dug and installed two 60' casings for critical utilities (gas and communications). The utilities are essential to the critical path for the Central Utility Plant and Tech Center for the New Campus East. Commonwealth Paving placed the asphalt road, and by the time commuters began their Monday morning treks to work, the new connector road was striped and ready for traffic.

This is just one example of the critical civil work TMG is performing for the US Army Corps of Engineers.
