Safety Engineer
 
Scope of Responsibilities
The responsibility of the Safety Engineer is to promote a systematic approach to assist in planning construction operations that are compliant with all safety and health related regulatory standards; to educate; to inspect; to report and to intervene when necessary to insure that all daily jobsite operations result in a safe and health environment for the workforce and the general public.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Effective oral and written communication skills;
  • Computer literate in general business software
  • In good standings and certified in OSHA 30-hour, 1st Aid and CPR and other related construction safety topics;
  • Certified by owner agencies when necessary (i.e.: MWAA, WMATA, NASA, etc.).
Position Duties
  • Work with the project management team, subcontractors and other third party entities to develop construction means and methods that meet all of the minimum OSHA and other applicable regulatory minimum standards for safety and health;
  • Prepare and manage site specific safety plans;
  • Review and approve subcontractor site specific safety plans;
  • Conduct safety orientation and weekly safety meetings;
  • Conduct daily inspections, prepare, distribute and maintain daily safety reports;
  • Assure compliance with all applicable safety and health standards; including enforcement of violations and stopping work if an imminent or repeat danger exists;
  • Promote a culture that encourages, recognizes and rewards safe conduct;
  • Perform formal and informal training of safety topics that are relevant to the projects dangers;
  • Prepare internal and regulatory reports that are required to maintain a fully compliant safety program. Develop and maintain a document control system that is highly organized fashion, which allows for real-time access to any required information;
  • Conduct and/or participate in accident investigations;
  • Participate in continuing education and training to stay current with changing regulations and best practices.
