Carpenter
 
Position Description
The responsibility of a carpenter is to accomplish specific carpentry related construction tasks (i.e.: concrete forming, drywall partitions construction, etc…). The role of carpenter includes blue print reading, layout, developing lists of materials, record keeping, and coordination with other trades to the extent necessary and hands-on work.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Three to five years of direct experience and a solid working knowledge of the specific work that is being constructed (i.e.: concrete formwork, drywall framing and hanging, etc..)
  • The ability to read blueprints and specifications; to create material lists and to fill out time cards and other minor record keeping tasks
  • Interpersonal competencies that include a drive for results, the need for closure, effective oral communication skills, organization, planning, trust, respect, cooperation and other non-technical skills that are needed to effectively get results
  • OSHA safety training and a current First Aid and CPR certificate; and
  • Ownership of all hand tools that are required to perform any the task contemplated. (TMG provides all power tools – except battery powered screw guns and equipment)
Responsibilities
Physical Work:
  • Blue Print reading, layout and planning of the day-to-day work to perform specific carpentry related tasks that ascertain that an appropriately sized crew remain productive
  • Establishing and enforcing standards of workmanship that meet the projects requirements that are consistent with industry best-practice
  • Working with the crew to accomplish the task, including teaching and mentoring individuals in the crew that are less experienced
  • Maintaining tools, cords and equipment so that they are kept in good working order and are safe for use; and
  • Maintaining the work area(s) is clean and orderly manner on a continuous basis
Administrative / Other Work:
  • Coordinating the work with the project superintendent, subcontractors and others that are involved in the process
  • Creating list of materials, supplies, specialty tools and equipment (proactively) that are needed to perform the work
  • Filling out time cards; enforcing work hours, dress codes and other personnel related matters; and participating in the review of labor productivity reports to ascertain that the financial goals of the task are being met; and
  • Participating in training and other forms of development to strengthen technical, safety and supervisory skills
