The responsibility of a carpenter is to accomplish specific carpentry related construction tasks (i.e.: concrete forming, drywall partitions construction, etcâ¦). The role of carpenter includes blue print reading, layout, developing lists of materials, record keeping, and coordination with other trades to the extent necessary and hands-on work.
- Three to five years of direct experience and a solid working knowledge of the specific work that is being constructed (i.e.: concrete formwork, drywall framing and hanging, etc..)
- The ability to read blueprints and specifications; to create material lists and to fill out time cards and other minor record keeping tasks
- Interpersonal competencies that include a drive for results, the need for closure, effective oral communication skills, organization, planning, trust, respect, cooperation and other non-technical skills that are needed to effectively get results
- OSHA safety training and a current First Aid and CPR certificate; and
- Ownership of all hand tools that are required to perform any the task contemplated. (TMG provides all power tools â except battery powered screw guns and equipment)
Physical Work:
- Blue Print reading, layout and planning of the day-to-day work to perform specific carpentry related tasks that ascertain that an appropriately sized crew remain productive
- Establishing and enforcing standards of workmanship that meet the projects requirements that are consistent with industry best-practice
- Working with the crew to accomplish the task, including teaching and mentoring individuals in the crew that are less experienced
- Maintaining tools, cords and equipment so that they are kept in good working order and are safe for use; and
- Maintaining the work area(s) is clean and orderly manner on a continuous basis
Administrative / Other Work:
- Coordinating the work with the project superintendent, subcontractors and others that are involved in the process
- Creating list of materials, supplies, specialty tools and equipment (proactively) that are needed to perform the work
- Filling out time cards; enforcing work hours, dress codes and other personnel related matters; and participating in the review of labor productivity reports to ascertain that the financial goals of the task are being met; and
- Participating in training and other forms of development to strengthen technical, safety and supervisory skills
